Adeste Fideles

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.” – Luke 1:46-48

Confession: I am not the best at remembering to call my mom. It does not mean that I do love her or that I believe my life is too busy to pick up the phone. Many times, I think about calling her and realize it is too early in the morning, so I wait…and then I start doing something else. Before long it is too late in the evening to call her, so I decide to wait until the next morning. And the cycle continues.

But this week, I remembered to call my mom. Among other things that we discussed, we talked about Christmas and the gathering of our family. This year, my family will gather with us in Royston. It will be my brother and my nephew’s first visit to Royston. We will gather together for lunch with the entire family, exchange gifts, laugh, talk about football, and enjoy the company of each other. I always enjoy this time that we have together.

Christmas is about the gathering. Not just family gatherings or gathering with friends, but gathering with our community of faith as we rejoice in God our Savior…for he has done great things! Will you gather with us for the celebration? Will you rejoice in Jesus with us? Adeste Fideles! O Come, All Ye Faithful!

This Sunday is our Christmas Cantata at 11:00 AM. The Chancel Choir will be sharing with us The Winter Rose during our time of worship. We will still have our early service at 8:45 where I will be sharing the third message in our series, He Shall Be Called. I look forward to being with you in worship this Sunday at 8:45 and 11:00! Have a great weekend!

Grace and peace,
Matt

P.S. Have you made your plans for Christmas Eve? We will be gathering for four different worship services this year, and I hope you are planning to be with us for one of them. You can find out more about Christmas Eve and all of our Christmas events and programs on our website at roystonfirstumc.org/christmas.
