Throughout scripture, we find examples of great men and women who took a bold step in faith. In Exodus, Moses and Israelites trusted God as they stepped into the middle of the Red Sea and crossed on dry land. A few years later, Joshua would lead the next generation of Israelites to take a step of faith in crossing the Jordan River. Ruth and Naomi took a step of faith as they made their way back to Bethlehem. David praised God every six steps as he made his way to Jerusalem with the ark of the covenant. And who could ever forget Peter’s big step of faith when he stepped out of the boat to walk on water toward Jesus.
Faith is a journey that we all experience, and each of us are at different points along the journey. Some of you may be standing on the shore and looking out with fear of what lies in front of you. Others may feel comfortable where they are, but know that God is calling them elsewhere. And some may be so excited about what God is doing that they can’t wait to jump out of the boat. No matter where you are in your faith journey, I believe that God is calling each of us to take that next step. It may be putting your trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior…it may be baptism…it might be church membership…it might be registering for a Community Group or Sunday School class…or it might be volunteering to serve in a ministry area. Everyone has a different step, but all of us have a next step.
This Sunday, I want to ask you to take that step with us. As you prepare for worship this Sunday, ask God to reveal that step to you, and then put your trust in God and take that next step. We will have opportunities for you to register for groups, sign up to serve, or talk with someone about baptism or church membership. It is my hope that we will be celebrating EVERYONE taking a next step in their faith journey this Sunday.
If you are unsure where your next step might be, send me an email and let’s talk. I’d love to help you discover that step and walk with you as you experience what God wants to do in your life. Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to being with you in worship on Sunday morning at 8:45 and 11:00!
Blessings,
Matt
P.S. Next Sunday, September 1, will be our Tailgate Sunday. We will have one worship service at 10:15 AM in the gym followed by food, games, and fun. There will be hamburgers and hot dogs and we are asking everyone to bring a side dish to share. Wear your favorite team’s colors and bring a canned good for Rainbow Pantry. It’s going to be an amazing Sunday of worship!
