Perspective: 153rd North Georgia Annual Conference

Recently, I attended the 153rd North Georgia Annual Conference along with some members from the church. I have asked Ann McCauley, the Lay Delegate to Annual Conference for Royston First UMC, to share about her experience.

The 153rd Session of the North Georgia Annual Conference opened up on June 11, 2019 in Athens, GA. Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson introduced our conference theme “One With Each Other.” This theme is building on last year’s theme which focused on “One With Christ.” This is based on our communion liturgy prayer, “That we may be one with Christ, one with each other, and one ministry for all the world.” We were welcomed by District Superintendent Brian Clark, representatives of Athens-Clarke County, and UGA to Athens. During this 2019 North GA Annual Conference we elected clergy and laity delegates for the 2020 General Conference which included lay delegates, Jane Finley (Toccoa), Ray Cann and Leon Jourolmon (Elberton). We also had retirement recognitions, fixing of appointments, the Service of Remembrance, Wesley Woods Pastoral Care Program and offering, the Service of Ordination, and the commissioning of missionaries. As you can see, we had a jam packed week taking care of the business of the North GA Methodists churches. If you would like to read the North GA Annual Conference Report, go to www.ngumc.org.

Bishop Sue’s theme of “One With Each Other” was spread through the speakers, music and prayers. Please be in prayer for all those involved in the decisions made this year in the General Conference of 2020. Those decisions will directly impact how we worship. Let us continue to “Make disciples who will make disciples for Christ.”
