This month, I asked Stephanie Langston to write about her experience in missions. Stephanie and her husband, Kenneth, will be leading a mission team to Jacksonville, FL, from June 2-8. The youth and adults will be helping in the rebuilding effort from recent storms in Florida. Stephanie’s experience in the short- term mission field will be helpful as they lead this trip.
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus says, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” I’ll never forget the moment these words became more than letters on a page, but an action, a command, for my life. About a year after graduating high school, I stepped out into the world, ready to share Jesus with those living in another country who may have never heard the name of Jesus. I was excited and terrified all at once. I’d never been on a mission trip before, nor had I been out of the country and so far from home. While on the trip, our team helped repair and paint a church, work in an orphanage and minister to others though dramas and dance. It was amazing! God was using me to show people who Jesus is! Not only that, but He was also showing me more about who I am with Him. Each day I felt myself growing in my relationship and walk with Jesus. When I returned to the states, I continued the mission and began telling those close to home all about Jesus. You see, I had been extremely blessed to go and preach the gospel in another country, but I was equally blessed to tell my family, friends and neighbors. The world is our mission field! So go and tell someone today about the greatness of God, and what He’s doing in your life!
Please keep our youth and adults in your prayers as they travel to Jacksonville, FL, this month to serve and share God’s word.
