Let’s Hear It For Mom!

Many of us probably have very fond memories of our mother. Perhaps it was an inspiration word she spoke to you. Maybe it was the way she always knew when you needed a hug at the end of a long day. Or maybe it was a favorite meal she made. Mom is a special person in our lives, and many of us would be lost without the nurturing guidance of our mother.

Unfortunately, there are some people who have a difficult time on Mother’s Day. Those whose mom has recently died, for instance. There are mothers who have lost children and even those young women who have a difficult time with infertility. Then there are some who did not have a good relationship with their mom. Mother’s Day can be a difficult day for some people. But let me challenge you to think about the influential women in your life. There is a good chance there is a woman in your life who shared “motherly” qualities. Someone who loved you and cared for you. Mother’s Day is a day we honor these women, as well.

In Proverbs 31:30-31, Solomon writes, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” How will you honor your mom this Mother’s Day? One way you can honor her is through our Mother’s Day offering for Wesley Woods Senior Living Facilities. Wesley Woods is a network of 10 senior living centers in the North Georgia Conference. Every year for Mother’s Day, churches in our conference come together to receive a special offering for these ministries. These facilities are owned and operated by the United Methodist Church, and your donation will help provide on-site chaplains, an innovative wellness program, and financial assistance to residents. The Wesley Woods Mother’s Day Offering is a wonderful way to honor your mother this Mother’s Day.

You can make your contribution to the church with the designation “Mother’s Day Offering” (or click here give online), give directly to Wesley Woods at mothersdaygift.org, or text MOTHER to 243725. Michele and I will be making a contribution in honor of our mothers, and I hope you will consider doing the same for this wonderful and life-giving ministry that helps provide care for so many.
We look forward to honoring all of our mothers this Sunday in worship. Have a great weekend and I look forward to being with you in worship on Sunday at 8:45 and 11:00!

Together with you,
Matt

P.S. With the weather getting warmer and school ending soon, many of us will begin traveling for the summer. But the ministries and mission of our church never takes a vacation. Before you go out of town this summer, will you consider setting up an account for online giving. It’s safe, secure, easy, and it only takes a few minutes to set up. You can set it up to give at regular intervals, or just a one-time gift. Learn more about online giving online or contact Heather Woods in the church office.
